Statement: Los Angeles Protests+ Raids
Over the past few days, we’ve all watched a series of protests and rallies unfold in Los Angeles.
These protests unfolded as a direct response to the raids that occurred Friday morning– raids that continue to happen across California and throughout the country. Community members were targeted, forcibly removed and detained at factories, warehouses and street vendor locations.
The collective response from the community has been nothing short of powerful. In the wake of cruel, racially charged raids and warrantless detentions targeting the LA community, we are witnessing neighbors showing up for one another, defending each other, building networks of care, and standing in solidarity against these racially targeted raids.
While mainstream coverage often paints these moments as chaotic or violent, what’s happening on the ground tells a different story. Thanks to social media, we are able to see the experiences in the community. Firsthand videos and testimonials from organizers and protesters show a reality that mainstream media has distorted: community, culture, and care. People are not just protesting, they’re gathering in unity, and resistance.
What’s happening in LA is a reminder of the power we hold when we come together. In moments like these, storytelling, especially from those on the ground, becomes essential. We all have a role to play in these crucial moments. Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have. It ensures that our experiences are not erased or rewritten. Whether you're a storyteller, artist, educator, protester, or something in between, how we show up matters. It’s how we preserve our truth and honor the communities shaping it.

En los últimos días, todos hemos presenciado una serie de protestas y manifestaciones en Los Ángeles. Estas protestas surgieron como respuesta directa a las redadas del viernes por la mañana, redadas que continúan ocurriendo en California y en todo el país. Miembros de la comunidad fueron atacados, desalojados por la fuerza y detenidos en fábricas, almacenes y puestos de venta.
En los últimos días, hemos visto cómo se desarrollan una serie de protestas y manifestaciones en Los Ángeles. La respuesta colectiva de la comunidad ha sido profundamente poderosa. Tras las redadas crueles con motivaciones raciales y las detenciones sin orden judicial que han atacado a nuestra gente, estamos presenciando un momento de resistencia viva: vecinos y vecinas que se cuidan, se defienden, crean redes de apoyo y se mantienen firmes en solidaridad frente a la injusticia.

No se trata solo de protestar; se trata de reunirse en unidad, en resistencia, y de celebrar la cultura que nos formó.
Lo que ocurre en Los Ángeles es un recordatorio del poder que tenemos cuando nos unimos. Ser los narradores de nuestras propias experiencias es una de las herramientas más poderosas que poseemos. Nos asegura que nuestras vivencias no sean borradas ni reescritas. Ya seas narrador, artista, educador, manifestante o algo entre medio, la forma en que nos hacemos presentes importa. Es así como preservamos nuestra verdad y honramos a las comunidades que la construyen.
